Nintendo has unveiled the latest offering for its 3DS handheld system, a simulation game called Tomodachi Life. The video game lets players create and take care of a whole new world of Miis and is set to be released this Friday.
The iconic Danboard character from the Yotsuba&! Manga series is about to get its own stop-motion movie series! Animation studio Dwarf, which is responsible for the popular Domo-kun TV animations, will be helming the project, and will be using the Danboard Revoltech figure to create short movies about the figure in a variety of environments, ranging from the desktop to outside and even underwater! Tomodachi Life lets users create highly detailed Miis of family and friends. Kids can customize appearance, personality and the voice of each Mii character, thus allowing for more personalized avatars. Artists, celebrities, and historical figures can also be created. Players can check in, feed, and play mini-games with their Miis, but the avatars essentially make their own decisions.
The first edition of this game, Tomodachi Collection, was released in Japan in 2009. The Japan-only release was a hit, with more than 5.5 million copies sold. Following this reception, Nintendo released the sequel Tomodachi Collection: New Life in April of last year.
The game is now making the jump to Western markets. It’s the first of its kind to launch in North America and if successful, it could help boost Nintendo’s 3DS handheld sales.
